Future Projects
Below is a brief description of some of the projects I am currently either writing, researching or pondering. As always, if you would like to help or have some input, get in contact.
Thamesmead
Thamesmead is a new town built in the 1960s and sits in an isolated part of South East London, UK. Stanley Kubrik filmed some of ‘A Clockwork Orange’ here, and I spent my childhood playing amongst its concrete structures.
A lot has been written about the prevalence of crime in the area, and how the architects expected the tower blocks to encourage a sense of community rather than destroy it. I want to describe how Thamesmead did not turn me into a criminal, but instead inspired a huge sense of adventure and exploration.
In the mean time, here is an excellent article about Thamesmead from the Guardian: Dreams Set in Concrete
Iraq
My parents are from Iraq. I was born in London. My knowledge about the country stems from Hollywood action movies, gruesome TV war correspondance and my mother's own stories of attempted honor killings which she single-handedly thwarted.
Chickens
My story of rearing three chickens in suburbia, and trying to cope with the unerring feeling that they are probably just mini-dinosaurs in disguise.
No TV
Almost two years ago, I became frustrated with a malfunctioning TV and decided to throw it away. This simple act of de-cluttering turned into a protest against the quality of broadcasting.
